If you are a new postdoc, this is for you.

“On 30th October 2024, a welcome day is being organised for all new staff and scholarship holders by Umeå University. The welcome day is an opportunity for you to learn more about the university´s vision, organisation, supporting activities and to quickly get into your work and the community.

The day begins with a warm welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, who will share more about the university’s vision, mission, and core values. This will be followed by a presentation on university’s idea – trends and traditions over 1000 years.

Throughout the day, presentations will be held in English covering topics such as career paths within academia, pedagogical qualifications, and academic writing. Simultaneously, presentations in Swedish will cover subjects such as the legal framework, decision-making structures at the university, and the digital workplace.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided during the day. During lunch, there will also be a Mini Expo where you’ll have the opportunity to meet invited guests, such as occupational health care, the Umeå Postdoc Society (UPS), as well as representatives from the HR department and our local unions.

The day will conclude with a joint discussion on the importance of working in an international environment.
