For our second seminar in the series about Career Paths for PostDocs (CaPS), we invited Dr. Anna Kriebs from Nature Communications to portrait her job as a Scientific Editor. She joined Nature Communications after completing her PhD in 2018.

Anna gave us some insights on her motivation and considerations before applying to the job and explained the application process. She portrayed the Springer Nature publishing group and gave us an overview about the different journals and their philosophies. Finally, she described a typical day at work and portrayed her editorial tasks as well as the extracurricular activities, which gave us a feeling for the workload of the job. We highly appreciate Anna’s commitment and motivation to answer questions from the audience. During the discussion, we touched various topics spanning from the application process to the future of scientific publishing and open access.

We share the video recording of CAPS #2 – Scientific Editor for download – HERE – until 31.08.2021. Please, don’t upload or share the content and use it for your own information only.
If you are interested in the job as an Editor – you are invited to get in touch with Anna (anna.kriebs(at)nature.com) to prepare yourself for the application process.
We once again thank Anna a lot for her time, sharing her insights and her open-minded discussion!
CAPS will be back in September with the next seminar featuring a round-table discussion on jobs in science management. Stay tuned for our announcements!
