SUMMARY:3rd UPS Postdoc Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Dear Postdoc community\,  \n\nWe are back with the most exciting event of the year; the Umeå Postdoc Society is happy to invite you to our third Postdoc Retreat on November 23rd-24th! \n\n\nThe 2-day retreat will be held in Hotell Lappland\, Lycksele\, by the shore of the Ume River\, and is aimed at networking among all postdocs currently employed at UmU or SLU in Umeå! \n\n\nWe will meet at the hotel on Saturday (November 23rd) for lunch\, with the official program starting at 14:30 and ending on Sunday (November 24th) afternoon. All costs\, including the lunches on Saturday and Sunday\, and the overnight stay at the hotel will be covered by UPS\, except for the transportation to and from Lycksele. You can get to Lycksele by bus\, or with your own car of course. \n\n\nPlease read the details below and the attached program and flyer. Registration for this event is mandatory and binding\, as the number of participants is limited and payment to the hotel must be made in advance. \nLocation: Hotell Lappland\, Korpberget 1\, 921 42 Lycksele \n\n\n\nImportant dates: \n\n\n\nDeadline for registration: 31st October\nStart of the program: November 23rd\, 14:00\nEnd of the program: November 24th\, 18:00\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease use the following link to register for the event: \nhttps://forms.gle/1azgQJXUeANUkmVQ6 \n\nHow to get to and from Lycksele with public transport: \n\n\n\nBus 31 connects Umeå and Lycksele. On Saturday morning\, there is a bus from Umeå Hospital at 10.45 hs\, or 10.55 hs from Umeå Bus Station. This bus arrives at Lycksele at 12.55 hs.\nFor coming back on Sunday there are two options: 12.30 hs (arriving at Umeå at 14.30 hs)\, or 18.45 hs (arriving at Umeå at 20.45 hs). Those who leave at 12.30 hs will not have the opportunity to visit the Forestry and Sami Museum and the Gammplatsen Historical Park and Nature Reserve. There is an item in the registration form for this\, so that we know the number of people to tell the museum.\nA single fare ticket costs 194 SEK\, so the total to go to and from Lycksele would be 388 SEK per person. SUMMARY:Hiking 2024 June 1
DESCRIPTION:Dear Postdocs\, \nThere is still time to sign up for the UPS Spring Hike tomorrow Saturday June 1st to Grössjön\, start 10:30 from Tomtebo! \nLet’s have a look at how nature explodes after the snow! This trip is especially dedicated to families. That means the trail is short and easy and we will adjust the pace and agenda to the kids. If you are not a family\, you are still welcome to join! Depending on who is there\, we can split the group and you take the entire walk around the lake instead. \nHIKE DETAILS: \nWe will start off from a parking spot nearby and our first goal would be to reach “Topp i Grössjön” (about 1 km from the start). There we can have a BBQ (I’ll bring charcoal/firewood). Depending on the group and participants\, we can go back from there or walk further around the lake/to the bird watch tower. The tower itself was down the last time I visited the spot\, but it’s a nice view anyway. \nThe route has some plank walks in between and I would generally not recommend bringing a buggy. My youngest daughter naps in some kind of bag pack. However\, since the BBQ spot is so close to the parking\, we will find a solution for every family and their needs. \nWHEN: Saturday\, June 1\, at 10.30 am \nEND: Depending on how you/we feel\, generally around 3 or 4 pm but leaving at any stage is fine. \nWHERE: We will meet south of Tomtebo at a parking spot https://maps.app.goo.gl/nEd1tx3XZykLXoMo6. It is easily reachable by bike or car.
